  1. What are cookies?

As clarified by the Italian Data Protection Authority (Garante Privacy) in its December 2012 FAQs, cookies are "small text files" – consisting of letters and numbers – "that websites visited by the user send to their terminal (usually to the browser), where they are stored to then be retransmitted to the same sites on the next visit by the same user". Cookies serve to streamline web traffic analysis or to signal when a specific site or part of it is visited, to distinguish visitors from each other to provide personalized content, and help administrators improve the site and users' browsing experience. Through cookies, we cannot access other information stored on your device, even if this is where cookies are downloaded. Cookies cannot load any type of code, carry viruses or malware, and are not harmful to the user's terminal.

  1. User consent to cookie usage

When first connecting to any page of the Site, the user will see an informative banner about the use of cookies, which will allow them to manage their installation preferences (consent).

The site remembers the choice made by the user, therefore the short notice will not be re-proposed in subsequent connections from the same device. However, the user always has the option to revoke all or part of the consent already given through the appropriate link accessible in the footer of the site.

  1. Cookie duration

Cookies can be:

  • session cookies, cookies that are permanently stored on the user's computer and are deleted when the browser is closed; they are strictly limited to the transmission of session identifiers necessary to allow safe and efficient exploration of the site, avoiding the use of other IT techniques potentially prejudicial to the privacy of user navigation;
  • persistent cookies, cookies that remain stored on the computer's hard drive until their expiry or deletion by users/visitors. Through persistent cookies, visitors accessing the site (or any other users using the same computer) are automatically recognized at each visit. Visitors can set their computer browser to accept/reject all cookies or display a warning each time a cookie is offered, to evaluate whether to accept it or not. The user can, however, change the default configuration and disable cookies (i.e., block them permanently), by setting the highest level of protection.

 

  1. Types of cookies

Cookies can be:

  • first-party cookies, i.e., cookies that report the current website as their domain;
  • third-party cookies, i.e., cookies that relate to external domains.

Third-party cookies are necessarily installed by an external party, always referred to as a "third party", not managed by the site.

We also use Meta Pixel, a (third-party) tool, consisting of a small programming code inserted into our site, which allows us to collect statistical data, monitor actions performed on our site by visitors, and create personalized audience groups to show our ads to, as well as leverage many other related functionalities.

  1. Nature of cookies

Regarding the nature of cookies, there are different types:

- Technical cookies: these are used solely for "carrying out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network, or as strictly necessary for the provider of an information society service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user to provide that service" (cf. Article 122, paragraph 1, of the Code).

They are not used for further purposes and are normally installed directly by the owner or manager of the website. They can be divided into:

  • navigation or session cookies, which ensure normal navigation and use of the website (allowing, for example, to make a purchase or authenticate to access restricted areas); they are essentially necessary for the proper functioning of the site;
  • analytics cookies (first-party) assimilated to technical cookies where used directly by the site manager to collect information, in aggregated form, on the number of users and how they visit the site, in order to improve site performance;
  • functionality cookies, which allow the user to navigate according to a series of selected criteria (e.g., language, products selected for purchase) in order to improve the service provided to them. For the installation of such cookies, the prior consent of users is not required (more information in the Cookie Management paragraph below).

- Analytics cookies (third-party): this type of cookie is not used directly by the site manager but is created and made available by third parties for statistical purposes. The site has no direct control over individual cookies and cannot control them (it can neither install them directly nor delete them). You can still manage these cookies through browser settings (follow the instructions below), or the sites indicated in the "Cookie Management" section.

- Profiling cookies: these are aimed at creating user profiles and are used to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed by the user while browsing the web. The consent of the data subject is required for the use of profiling cookies.
